This event is Day 2 of the Dun Holm Challenge, scheduled for 22 May 2026 at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, Green Ln, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JU. It is a 7-hour timed event with a maximum of 300 entrants and entries close on 21/05/2026. Minimum age is 12 years. Transfers and deferrals are allowed for a fee; deferrals must be arranged before the event. Anyone wishing to run over 45 km must be 20 years or older; 18 and 19 year olds may run up to 45 km.

  • 3 km minimum to be an official finisher
  • 7 km full lap (4.37 miles); course may be changed to a 3.28 mile loop
  • Half marathon: 3 laps
  • Marathon: 6 laps
  • Ultra: 7 laps or more
  • 50 km distance available

Course and facilities

The course is a flat trail run along a stretch of the River Wear with views of the Cathedral. The route is fully signed and runs on public footpaths. Walkers are permitted and headphones are allowed. Aid and drinks tables are available at the start/finish of each lap with sweet and savory options and vegan choices. Toilets and changing facilities are provided at race HQ. A bag drop is available but is not staffed and items are left at the participant's risk. Medals are awarded for completing at least 3 km; distance pins and themed goody bags, including a vegan option, are available for longer distances.
