This is a 7 hour timed running challenge held on 29 March 2026 at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, Green Ln, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JU. Entry is open to a maximum of 300 entrants. Minimum age is 12 years. Entries close 28/03/2026. Transfer of entries is allowed for £2.50 online up to 22/03/2026; a deferral to another event is available for a fee of £18 after that. Entry fees listed are £27.00 (affiliated) and £29.00 (unattached).

Distances

  • 3 km minimum distance to be recorded as an official finisher.
  • 7 km full lap (4.37 miles) - may change to a 3.28 mile loop.
  • Half-marathon requires 3 laps.
  • Marathon requires 6 laps.
  • Ultra requires 7 or more laps; 50 km option available.

Course, facilities and rules

The course is a fully signed trail along the River Wear with views of the Cathedral. Organisers may alter the route based on health and safety review. There are 3k and 5k turn points on the lap to allow compliance with UK Athletics age-distance rules. Aid and drinks tables are provided at the start/finish of each lap with a range of drinks and savoury and sweet snacks, including vegan options. Finishers receive a goody bag, with a vegan option available, and distance pins for half-marathon and longer distances. Toilets and changing facilities are available at race headquarters. A bag drop is provided but is unstaffed and unsecured; the organiser accepts no liability for lost items. Headphones are allowed. Anyone running over 45 km must be at least 20 years old; 18- and 19-year-olds may run up to 45 km. Parking is available nearby on street or in pay-and-display city centre locations. Silent Night Race is a challenging night fell run to Chapelfell Top under starlight, testing navigation on rough, pathless terrain. Strict kit and proof of prior off path navigation are required, and entry is adults only.
