Cleveland Survival 2026

The Cleveland Survival is an orienteering-style event located in the North York Moors. It is open to both runners and walkers, who can participate as individuals or as part of a group. The event serves as a primary fundraiser for the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team and marks the 41st edition of the race.

The course follows a single route of approximately 24 miles. Participants must navigate the terrain to visit a series of checkpoints and via points in a specific order. Each checkpoint is identified by a grid reference and a description. All participants are required to complete the course within a designated time limit.

Due to the nature of the terrain and the time of year, specific equipment is required for all entrants. Essential kit includes a map, compass, emergency food, survival bag, whistle, windproof clothing, and full waterproofs.

Checkpoints along the route are manned by Search and Rescue personnel. Drinks are available at select stations, and a hot meal is provided for participants at the finish line. To reduce waste, attendees are required to bring their own mug for use at these stops.

The precise location of the event is released to participants approximately one week before the date. Dogs are not permitted to take part in this event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
