Cleveland Survival 2026

Cleveland Survival 2026 takes place on 28 March 2026 in the North York Moors, with the event locality listed as Great Ayton, North Yorkshire. The event is organised by the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team and serves as a major fundraiser for that voluntary organisation. This will be the 41st running of the Survival and occurs during the 60th year of the rescue team.

Course, format and logistics

The Survival is open to runners and walkers and is based on an orienteering course. The event is being run as a single route of around 24 miles, to be completed within a set time limit. Competitors aim to visit a series of checkpoints, each identified by a grid reference and description, in the order given on the route card. The event can be completed individually or as part of a group. Checkpoints are manned by Search and Rescue personnel; drinks are available at some checkpoints and a hot meal is provided for all at the finish. Essential kit listed for the event includes a map and compass, emergency food, a survival bag, a whistle, windproofs and full waterproofs, and a mug. Dogs are not allowed. The precise event location will be sent out about one week before the event. Entries are open from 6 November 2025 and close on 21 March 2026; the entry fee is £30.00.
