The event takes place on Sunday 15 February 2026 at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, Green Ln, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JU. It is a 7-hour timed running challenge with a maximum of 300 entrants. Entries close on 14/02/2026. Minimum age is 12 years. Anyone wishing to run over 45 km must be 20 years or older; 18- and 19-year-olds may run up to 45 km. Entry fees shown are Affiliated £27.00 and Unattached £29.00. Transfers are available for a fee of £2.50 online and deferrals to another event are available for a one-off fee of £18.

Course, distances and facilities

The course follows a stretch of the River Wear with views of the Cathedral. It is described as flat, on trail and fully signed. The lap is listed as 7 km (4.37 miles) but may be changed to a 3.28 mile loop depending on course conditions. There are 3 km and 5 km turn points within the lap to allow compliance with age rules.

Medals are awarded to finishers who complete at least 3 km. Distance pins are available for half-marathon and longer finishes within the 7-hour limit. The event provides an aid/drinks table each lap with vegan options, goody bags with a vegan selection on request, toilets and changing facilities (use subject to venue rules), a non-secure bag drop, limited free on-street parking nearby, and headphones are allowed. Silent Night Race is a challenging night fell run to Chapelfell Top under starlight, testing navigation on rough, pathless terrain. Strict kit and proof of prior off path navigation are required, and entry is adults only.

Celebrate the season at Chopwell Woods on 21 December 2025 with festive trail routes for family 1 mile, 4 mile and 8 mile runners through atmospheric woodland. Finishers get medals and mince pies and canicross is welcome.
