Saturn 7 Hour Time Challenge - Gilesgate

Event details

The Rise From The Ashes Run is a 7 hour timed trail event on Sunday 18 January 2026 at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, Green Ln, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JU. The course runs along the River Wear with views of the Cathedral and is fully signed. The minimum distance is 3 km. A full lap is listed as 4.37 miles (7 km) but may be changed to a 3.28 mile loop depending on course conditions. The event has a maximum of 300 entrants and entries close 17/01/2026. Minimum age is 12 years.

• Marathon: 6 laps
• Ultra: 7+ laps
• 50 km: available

There are 3 km and 5 km turn points within the lap to allow compliance with UK Athletics age rules. Anyone running over 45 km must be at least 20 years old; 18- and 19-year-olds may run up to 45 km.

Facilities and rules

Finishers receive a themed medal for completing at least 5 km and goody bags are provided, with a vegan goody bag option. Distance pins are given for half-marathon and longer distances and are attached to the medal ribbon. An aid and drinks table is available at the start/finish of each lap with snacks and vegan options. Toilets and changing facilities are at race headquarters. A bag drop is provided but is unstaffed and items are left at the participant’s own risk. Headphones are allowed.
