Event information

The Saddleworth Res's is a set of off-road races held in the Saddleworth moorland area on Saturday 7 March 2026. The event is based at Saddleworth Rangers Rugby Club, Shaw Hall Bank Road, Greenfield, Oldham, OL3 7LD. It is organised by CraggRunner and runs under a permit with associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA. Entries open 1 April 2025 and close 22 February 2026. Entry fees published for 2026 are: 5 Res's £35, 10 Res's £42, 15 Res's £52, with a £2 reduction for FRA/LDWA/TRA members. Live tracking is provided via Open Tracking. The event uses multiple support points and provides refreshments and a post-event meal.

Courses, terrain and kit

  • 5 Res's - 25 km, 710 m ascent; 2 checkpoints, the last indoors; minimum age 17.
  • 10 Res's - about 26 miles / around 42–44 km reported, roughly 1,300 m ascent; 3 checkpoints; minimum age 18.
  • 15 Res's - 60 km, 1,876 m ascent; 5 checkpoints with three indoor venues; minimum age 20.

Routes are high moorland and unmarked, visiting local reservoirs and sections of bog, boulder fields, paved slabs and stream crossings. Participants must navigate their chosen course and visit checkpoints in order. Mandatory kit includes whole-body waterproof cover, hat and gloves, spare long-sleeve top, paper map and compass, whistle, basic first-aid, survival bag, headtorch with spare power (not required on the 5 Res's), extra food and water, and a plastic mug.
