Run to the Rising Sun is a 10k trail race on 14 December 2025 at Rising Sun Country Park, Whitley Road, Benton, Newcastle upon Tyne NE12 9SS. The event is open to people aged 15 or older. Entry fees are listed as £22 for UKA members and £24 for non-members. Race headquarters, registration and toilets are at the cafe building of the Countryside Centre; there is no parking available at the Race HQ.

Course and facilities

The route is traffic-free, well-marked and marshalled, with no navigation required. Terrain includes hard packed gravel tracks, grassy paths and woodland paths, with one main summit and mainly downhill running toward the finish. Medical support will be available on the course. Free water, snacks and fruit are provided at the finish; hot drinks can be purchased at the café. Organisers do not use disposable plastic cups and ask participants to bring a container for water. Entries include a race day memento and a packet of mixed wild flower seeds; prizes are planned for the top three male and female finishers and top veteran category finishers. Parking is available at the ASDA Benton supermarket, about 0.5 mile from Race HQ. Temperatures at this time of year can fall below freezing, so warm clothing for after the race is recommended.
