21st Regular Irregular
This event offers participants the choice to walk or run one or more of three looped routes around Holmfirth, starting and finishing at Brockholes Village Hall, Holmfirth. The loops run through moorland, urban sections and roads and take place in early winter conditions.
Distances:
- Loop A 11.6 miles / 18.5 km
- Loop B 7.2 miles / 11.5 km
- Loop C 4.2 miles / 6.7 km
Participants may complete any number of loops but must do them in order of length, longest first and shortest last, so the organisers can account for everyone. Maps are required; Explorer 288 is recommended and route descriptions are available from the LDWA website. Entry is limited to 150 with a wait list when full.
Entry fees are listed as LDWA £12, non-LDWA £15 for advance entry, and £20 on the day (cash only). Children under 16 walk free when accompanied by an adult. U18s must be LDWA members or walk with a parent or guardian; U16s must walk with a parent or guardian. Dogs are allowed but must be under constant control.
The entry package includes tea and toast at registration, snacks and cold drinks between loops, a meal at the finish and a certificate; participants are asked to bring their own mug. The organisers plan to cater for meat and fish eaters and vegetarians but cannot guarantee food is free from all allergens.
A minimum safety kit is required because of terrain and conditions. Required items include waterproof clothing, a spare top, suitable footwear, a head or hand torch with spare batteries, a first aid kit, compass, whistle, a survival bag not a blanket, and a route description and map. Electronic maps are permitted if downloaded and backed up with power. Participants who retire must do so at a checkpoint and marshals may withdraw participants for safety or timing reasons.
