Event Overview

The Rattlesnake Dick event offers three trail running distances: 50K, 25K, and 10K. All distances start and finish at the Cool Staging Area (7200 Saint Florian Court, Cool, CA).

Course Details

  • 50K: The course has an elevation gain and loss of 4,700 feet.
  • 25K: The course has an elevation gain and loss of 2,100 feet.
  • 10K: The course has an elevation gain and loss of 1,060 feet.

All courses are described as hiker and back-of-the-pack friendly. The 50K and 25K have a generous 10-hour time limit at the finish line. The 10K has no official cut-off time. Trekking poles are allowed.

Race Features

Professional race timing and live tracking are provided. Each participant receives a race event shirt. Every official finisher under 10 hours receives a finisher's medal. The top three women and top three men in each distance receive custom trophies.

Logistics

Packet pick-up is available the day before the race in Auburn, CA, and on race morning at the start area. Parking at the Cool Staging Area requires a state park pass or a $10 day-use fee (cash). Volunteers will direct parking. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Trail runs nearby

Trail races inside Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park range from a Kids Run to a half marathon on varied singletrack and paved sections, with marked courses, aid stations, and notable elevation gains.

Trail races from Browns Ravine Marina follow out-and-back lakeside trails with 10K, half marathon, 35K and 50K options; aid stations appear every 4 to 6 miles and all finishers receive a custom medal.

A spring trail race in Cool presented by Altra, Dirty Secret offers two single-track courses through meadows, hills and a creek crossing. The event is limited to 600 runners and includes a tech shirt and finisher medal.

Trail races from 5K to 50K around Jenkinson Lake on May 9, 2026, with a 100 runner daily cap. Parking and registration are at the Scales Parking Lot; most distances finish at the Waterfall Trailhead and a $5 day use fee applies.
