Event Details
The Sunset & Cider Trail Races take place in Auburn, California, on a Saturday in October. The event features three trail running distances: 50K, 13.1 miles (Half Marathon), and 5 miles.
Courses
The courses run through the American River Canyon. They consist of out-and-back segments on single-track trails with a short neighborhood road section. The event is timed to finish during sunset.
- 50K: 3760 ft of climbing. Aid stations are located at miles 3.8, 10.5, 17.0, 20.9, and 25.6.
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles): 1890 ft of climbing. Aid stations are at miles 3.8, 4.8, and 8.7.
- 5 Miler: 704 ft of climbing. This course follows the first five miles of the half marathon route. There are no aid stations.
Aid stations provide water, sports drink, light snacks, and fruit. There is an overall time limit for finishing due to available light.
Post-Race
After the race, the event continues at Ponderosa Cider Company. All participants receive a commemorative 16oz cider glass. The first 200 registrants receive a trail running hat.
Registration and Community
Registration closes on the day of the event. The event is presented by Bad Luck Run Club and Ponderosa Cider Co. An optional community initiative allows participants to donate to selected nonprofit partners for a future race discount. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
