Sunset & Cider Trail Races is a trail running event in Auburn, CA, set near the American River Canyon. The event takes place in October 2026 and is presented by Bad Luck Run Club and Ponderosa Cider Co. Distances offered include:
- 50K
- 13.1M (Half Marathon)
- 5M
Post-race activities include cider pours for participants 21+ and a commemorative 16oz cider glass for all participants. The first 200 participants receive a BOCO trail running hat.
Courses and aid
The courses use mostly single-track trails with a short neighborhood road section. Reported total climbing:
- 50K: 3,760 ft of climbing. Aid stations at miles 3.8, 10.5, 17.0, 20.9, and 25.6 offering water, sports drink, light snacks, and fruit.
- 13.1M: 1,890 ft of climbing. Aid stations at miles 3.8, 4.8, and 8.7 offering water, sports drink, light snacks, and fruit.
- 5M: 704 ft of climbing. This follows the first 5 miles of the half marathon course. There are no aid stations on the 5M route. Walkers are allowed.
Awards and charity
Age group awards will be given in categories 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+. The Unity Initiative supports selected nonprofit partners and offers donation matching up to $40 or 25% of the registration fee for qualifying donations made in 2025 and prior to the event date. Selected nonprofit partners include Placer Food Bank, Sacramento Food Bank, local CASA organizations, AcademySTAY, Sierra Club of California, Placer Land Trust, and the ACLU.
