Trail Overview

Race to the Stones 2026 takes place on the Ridgeway, recognized as the oldest footpath in the United Kingdom. This trail event follows a route through ancient landscapes in Southern England, including chalk downs and forests. The course features several prehistoric and historic sites such as Grim’s Ditch, Liddington Hill Fort, the Uffington White Horse, and Barbury Castle. Participants follow the trail to the finish line at the Avebury Standing Stones, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Distance Options

Participants can choose from several formats over the weekend of 11-12 July:

  • 100km Non-Stop: A continuous journey along the full length of the course.
  • 100km Over Two Days: The full distance completed with an overnight stay at a basecamp.
  • Day One (Thames Valley 50km): A 50 km route crossing the River Thames.
  • Day Two (Ridgeline 50km): A 50 km route featuring views of the northern vale.

Course Profile and Support

The 100 km route includes approximately 1,350 m of elevation gain. The terrain consists of a mix of non-technical trails, paths, riverside tracks, and sections of quiet tarmac. The event is open to both runners and walkers, with a cut-off time of over 25 hours.

Support on the course includes signposted trails and seven main pit stops stocked with food and drinks. The halfway basecamp at Lattin Down provides hot food and showers. Medical personnel and paramedic teams are stationed throughout the route. At the finish line village, participants receive a medal and a hot meal.
