Quarry Runs

Quarry Runs are a series of junior races held at Penistone Hill on 18 January 2026, 11 October 2026 and 20 December 2026. The races use short circuits around the old quarries, with starts in the quarry, a run along the quarry floor and an ascent up the far end. Older age groups complete one or two larger laps of the moor, passing the edge of the pond and the trig before returning into the quarry. U10s run a smaller loop within the quarry.

The 2026 event uses new age-group definitions set by FRA rule changes; ages are as at 31 December 2026. There is no separate U20 category; competitors under 18 on the day may run as U18 and are eligible for prizes in that category. Minimum age is 6 years on the day. Entry cost is £2 and a goody bag is provided for all runners. Junior prizegiving takes place at the Cricket Hut at West End Cricket Club, with prizes for the top three in each age category and additional fancy dress prizes.
