Portland Loop Challenge
The Portland Loop Challenge is a half marathon held on 6 June 2026 around the Isle of Portland on the Jurassic Coast. The route covers 13.1 miles and follows coastal terrain with extensive sea views and exposed clifftop sections.
The course uses a mix of surfaces, including coastal paths, exposed sections, road and tracks, with rolling terrain and frequent changes underfoot. It is presented as an endurance-style half marathon rather than a fast, flat road race.
Event headquarters are at Portland Masonic Hall (Masonic Lodge Portland), Victoria Square, Portland, Dorset, DT5 1AL. The HQ serves as registration, briefing point, finish area and reception, and as a place for runners to collect information and relax after finishing.
Entry fee is £40. Included in the entry are a GPS tracker supplied by Geo Tracks, live view GPS tracking course maps, event support, food and drink on the course, a GPX route file, a bespoke finisher medal, free parking at HQ and medical cover.
A staffed checkpoint is located at Portland Bill, about 5 miles into the route; it provides water, juice and Coke, fresh fruit (orange, banana, watermelon), salty snacks, flapjacks and sweets. The route is covered by medical support.
Carrying specific kit is compulsory. Required items include a navigation device, waterproof top and long trousers, warm top sealed in a waterproof bag, hat and gloves sealed in a waterproof bag, emergency food, torch and spare batteries, at least 400 ml of water, a high visibility item, a folding cup and a fully charged mobile phone. No kit means no participation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
