The Cottam Canter takes place on Saturday 9 May 2026 at the UCLAN Sports Arena, Cottam, Preston, Lancashire, PR2 1SG. Distances offered are:

Course and race format

The course is based on a 5K loop that starts and finishes at the UCLAN Sports Arena and uses the Lancaster canal towpath. The route runs toward Preston, passes canal locks, follows the millennium Ribble link, and goes through Haslam Park around the park and lake before returning to the canal and the arena.

Loop format:

  • 10K = 2 loops
  • Half marathon = 4 loops plus a short out-and-back
  • Marathon = 8 loops plus a short out-and-back
  • Ultra = as many laps as desired within a 6 hour limit (last lap must start within 5 hours 15 minutes)

Facilities and age limits

The sports arena provides changing rooms, toilets, showers, a cafe and free parking. All participants must be over 18. Ages 18-19 may enter up to the marathon; participants over 20 have no maximum distance. Refunds are not permitted; transfers or deferrals are allowed up to one week before the event.
