The Cottam Canter takes place on Saturday 9 May 2026 at the UCLAN Sports Arena, Cottam, Preston, Lancashire, PR2 1SG. The event is part of a three-day series. Maximum entries are 100 and entries close on 02/05/2026. Age restrictions require all participants to be over 18; ages 18-19 may enter up to the marathon distance, and those over 20 may enter any distance. The Trail Running Association race permit number is to be announced.

Course and facilities

The course uses a 5K loop that starts in the grounds of the sports arena then follows the Lancaster canal towpath, passes canal locks and the Millennium Ribble Link, and goes through Haslam Park around the lake before returning to the canal and the arena. Distances are multiple laps of the 5K loop: 10K is two laps, half marathon four laps plus a short out-and-back, marathon eight laps plus a short out-and-back. The ultra is as many laps as a runner wishes within a six hour limit; the last lap must start within 5 hours 15 minutes.
