Cottam Canter : UCLAN Sports Arena, Cottam, Preston

The event takes place on Saturday 9 May 2026 at the UCLAN Sports Arena in Cottam, Preston. The course starts in the grounds of the sports arena and follows the Lancaster canal towpath towards Preston. Runners pass canal locks, follow the Millennium Ribble Link and run through the tree lined paths of Haslam Park, including a loop around the park and lake, before returning to the canal and heading back to the sports arena for the finish.

The course is a 5K loop. Distances offered:

  • 5K one loop
  • 10K two loops
  • Half marathon four loops plus a short out and back
  • Marathon eight loops plus a short out and back
  • Ultra as many laps as desired within a six hour limit; last lap must start within 5 hours 15 minutes

Entry fees vary by distance and affiliation, with separate affiliated and unattached rates for each distance. All participants aged 18 or over are eligible; ages 18 to 19 have a maximum distance of marathon while those over 20 have no maximum distance. The UCLAN sports arena provides changing rooms, toilets, showers, a cafe and free parking. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and post run refreshments. A winter waymarked trail challenge from Barley that follows the Pendle Way with a full ~45 mile course or a ~30 mile alternative, running over moorland and villages with multiple checkpoints and required winter kit.

A long BL fell race around Wadsworth with navigational sections and mandatory FRA kit. The route is about 19.3 miles (31 km) with 1110 m ascent. Pre entry closes 6 February 2026 and very limited places may be available on the day.

A winter fell race from the Rams Head Inn across moorland and the Pennine Way, roughly 12 miles with 2100 feet of ascent. Checkpoints provide basic supplies and full FRA winter kit is required.

A chip timed 5k, 10k and half marathon around Heaton Park with mainly path running and one trail section. The event supports Shelter, offers medals and on-course marshals, and includes accessibility for buggies and most wheelchairs.
