Petzl Night Trails 10k at Salcey Forest

The event is a trail 10k held at Salcey Forest on 24 March 2026. Salcey Forest is a Forestry Commission site near Northampton with a cafe and toilets; the postcode for sat navs is NN7 2HX. The venue is about 18 minutes from Northampton and around 9 minutes from Junction 15 of the M1. The closest train station is Northampton.

The route is fully marked and run mainly on crushed stone as a two lap course. Ground conditions will vary with weather and can become slippy or mucky where there is tree detritus. The forest is described as fundamentally flat though short uphills are part of the course.

A head or chest torch is required to take part. Petzl will attend with demo kit so participants can try head torches at the event. Canicross is included; canicross runners start ten minutes before the main field in a mass start. Organisers note that some dogs may find a mass start overstimulating and advise entrants to consider the format and rules.

The event uses tiered pricing with lower fees for earlier entries and no booking fee. Unaffiliated entrants pay an extra £2. Biodegradable cups and water or electrolyte will be available on course and hot drinks will be offered before and after the race. The event partners with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and offers a tree token option instead of a medal which supports tree planting and contains wildflower seeds.
