The Pennine Barrier Ultra 50 is a 50-mile trail ultramarathon in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, held on Saturday 2 May 2026. The course totals 50 miles with 2593 m of ascent. The event is limited to 750 places and is held under UKA and Trail Running Association permits. The stated race cut-off is 18 hours and the entry fee is £119. Entry requires runners to be at least 20 years old and to have completed an organised event of at least marathon distance previously.

Route, checkpoints and logistics

The race starts and finishes at Malham Showfield, Chapel Gate, Malham (BD23 4DG). The route uses sections of the Pennine Way and the Yorkshire Three Peaks trails and passes Malham Cove, the Dry Valley of Watlowes, Malham Tarn, Fountains Fell, Janet’s Foss and the peaks Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. There are five checkpoints on the course at approximately miles 12, 21, 27, 34 and 38; all checkpoints provide food and drinks and have medical cover. Dropbags are not permitted and mandatory kit must be carried throughout the race, including a waterproof coat, long-sleeve base layer, minimum 1 litre water container, fully charged phone, emergency blanket, headtorch (min 75 lumens), backup light (min 25 lumens), emergency rations (min 500 calories), whistle and a GPS tracker supplied by the organiser.
