The Pennine Barrier Ultra 50 is a trail ultra-marathon held in Malham, Yorkshire Dales National Park on Saturday 2 May 2026. The race distance is 50 miles with 2593 m of ascent. The event is run under UKA and Trail Running Association permit and is included in ITRA and UTMB performance indexing. Entry is limited to 750 places and the overall event cut-off is 18 hours.

Course and logistics

The route uses sections of the Pennine Way and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks way-marked trails. The course passes Malham Cove, the Dry Valley of Watlowes, Malham Tarn, Fountains Fell, Janet’s Foss and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks: Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. There are five checkpoints on the route. Checkpoints provide drinks (cola, Tailwind, water, juice), sandwiches, salted potatoes, fruit and snacks, and a medic or first aider presence. No dropbags are permitted.

Entry, requirements and rules

Runners must be at least 20 years old and have completed an organised marathon distance event prior to entry. Mandatory kit must be carried during the race; examples include a waterproof coat with sealed seams (min 10,000 mm), a long-sleeved base layer kept dry, a water bottle or bladder (min 1 litre), a fully charged mobile phone, an emergency blanket, a headtorch (min 75 lumens) plus a backup light (min 25 lumens), emergency rations (min 500 calories), a whistle and the race GPS tracker (property of GB Race Tracker). Pacers and support runners are not permitted. Support crew access is restricted at several checkpoints. Designated event parking is on Malham Showfield; camper vans may use this location as a base.
