OSS/CIA 50 Mile Night Run
The OSS/CIA 50 Mile Night Run takes place in Prince William Forest Park in Triangle, VA. The event offers multiple distances and uses a looped trail course on park terrain that includes single track, some fire road, and several bridge and National Park Service road crossings.
Distances:
- 50 Miler
- 25M
- 10 Miler
The 50 mile race is composed of a 25 plus mile loop run twice to reach 50 plus miles. Starting in 2023 the event added a night marathon that uses the one-loop course and gives athletes 8 hours and 35 minutes to complete that loop. All cut-offs for the 50 mile event also apply to the night marathon.
Aid is provided from two fully stocked main aid stations located at Telegraph Road Pavilion and Oak Ridge Camp Ground. Two additional mini-aid stations offer a smaller selection of food, water, and Tailwind at the South Valley Trail intersection with Scenic Drive and at the Burma Road intersection with Scenic Drive.
Crew and pacer rules are defined by the park. Crews are allowed only at the Telegraph Road Pavilion and must be in the park and at Telegraph Road Pavilion before nightfall. Pacers are permitted beginning with the second loop from Telegraph Road Pavilion. Organizers note that noncompliance with park rules could affect future permit approval.
Prince William Forest Park was established in 1936. It has about 37 miles of trails across more than 15,000 acres and is the largest protected natural area in the Washington D.C. metropolitan region. The park contains trails and cabins tied to its historical use as a training area for the Office of Strategic Services prior to World War II.
