North Shore Trail Run
Spring Lake, United States • 3 Oct 2026
Event Overview
The North Shore Trail Run takes place at Coast Guard Park in the North Ottawa Dunes area of Ferrysburg and Spring Lake, Michigan. Now in its sixth year, the event utilizes the local trail systems for a variety of distances. The course features single-track sections where the use of headphones is prohibited to ensure safety and clear communication between participants during passing.
Course Details
The routes vary in difficulty based on the terrain. The focus is on natural paths within the park system, starting near the tennis courts. Participants can choose from several distinct options:
- 10K Trail Run: A distance of 6.2 miles featuring a hilly and more technical route.
- 5K Trail Run/Hike/Walk: A 3.1 mile course that is less hilly than the longer distance.
- Combo 10K + 5K: A total of 9.3 miles for those capable of finishing the 10K within 105 minutes.
- 2K Kids Fun Run: An untimed 1.3 mile mini version of the 5K for participants aged 12 and under.
Participant Information
All participants receive a locally grown pie pumpkin from Mellema Farms, referred to as a "Vegdal," upon finishing. The first 150 registrants are provided with trail running socks. Registration fees support local non-profit organizations, including Love in Action, the Chariots of Fire Youth Running Club, and improvements for the Ferrysburg Fire Barn Park. Because the event is organized for charity, refunds are not available. Packet and bib pick-up is held at the park pavilion either the evening before the race or on the morning of the event.
