Midwest Everest : event overview
Midwest Everest is a multi-distance trail running event held September 26-27, 2026 at Cannonsburg Ski Hill, 6800 Cannonsburg Rd, Belmont, Michigan. The event uses repeated short uphill and downhill loops on ski runs together with additional wooded single-track loops to accumulate large elevation totals.
The event program includes these distances:
- 100 Mile - over 30,000 ft gain and loss; 152 everesting loops and four ~2 mile trail loops
- 50 Mile - over 15,000 ft gain and loss; 76 everesting loops and two ~2 mile trail loops
- Sunset 10K - single loop on Cannonsburg trails with a trip to the top of the main hill
- Sunrise 20K - two laps of the 10K course on single track and the ski hill
- Summer Everest Challenge - complete 137 loops June 21–Sept 25, finish 15 loops on race day
Course notes explain that the 100M and 50M are built from many short "everesting" loops up the Cannonsburg Quad and down the Double ski runs, with optional ~2 mile trail laps that runners may take at any time during the race. Light towers are not available on the ski hill, so participants must provide a headlamp and extra batteries; a headlamp is recommended for all distances except the Sunday 20K. Pacers are not allowed.
Finishers receive event awards: a unique belt buckle for 100 mile finishers, custom medals for other distances, a hand-painted award for 10K/20K combo finishers, awards to top finishers, race swag, free downloadable photos, and aid stations offering cold and hot food. Races are capped at 200 entrants per event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
