Nicky Nook Fell Race
The Nicky Nook Fell Race is a midweek event organized by Garstang Running Club. The course takes place in the scenery around Scorton and Nicky Nook near Garstang. It is classified as a BS category race, covering a distance of 8 km (5 miles) with an elevation gain of 310 m (1000ft). The route is partially flagged, though participants are advised that the final off-road descent is only accessible on the night of the event by permission of the landowner.
The event is licensed by the Fell Runners Association (FRA) and operates under UKA rules. Participants must be at least 16 years old to enter. There is a general entry limit of 140 runners. While online pre-entry is preferred, entry on the night is only possible if the participant limit has not been reached.
Full mandatory FRA minimum kit is required for all participants and must be brought to the event. This equipment includes:
- Waterproof full body cover with taped seams and integrated hood
- Hat (specifically not a buff)
- Gloves
- Appropriate map and compass
- Whistle
- Emergency food
A kit check is performed prior to collecting race numbers. After the race, runners are provided with a roll and soup at the Shippon at the Applestore Café. Additional refreshments such as beer, cake, tea, and coffee are available for purchase. Free parking is provided at the venue, and the organizers encourage car sharing or cycling when possible.
