The NAV4 LiAD Recce focuses on the opening section of the Lakes in A Day event route. Guided by experienced tutors and guides, participants travel from Caldbeck to Threlkeld. This reconnaissance day is designed to help participants familiarize themselves with the specific terrain and technical requirements of this segment.
The route covers a total distance of 12 miles and includes 3600 feet of total ascent and descent. The terrain consists of:
- Initial miles of lane and trail
- Remote open rough fell
- Small grassy wet trods
- The fording of the River Caldew
- The ascent of Blencathra
- Rocky sections and the Hallsfell Ridge descent
This session provides practical information regarding event strategy, training methods, and navigation. Participants receive advice on clothing, gear, shoe choices, and nutrition for the event. The group size is limited to 15 people to ensure focused guidance.
Transport is provided for participants before the recce begins, moving the group from the designated finish point in Threlkeld to the start point in Caldbeck.
