NAV4 LiAD Recce - Caldbeck to Threlkeld

This guided reconnaissance session covers the first section of the Lakes in A Day event route. The course starts in Caldbeck and finishes in Threlkeld, spanning a total distance of 12 miles. The terrain is primarily remote open rough fell, featuring small grassy wet paths, rocky sections, and the technical descent of Hallsfell Ridge.

The route includes several significant landmarks and natural features:

  • Fording of the River Caldew
  • Ascent of Blencathra
  • Descent of Hallsfell Ridge
  • Lane and trail sections

Participants gain 3600 feet of total ascent and descent throughout the day. The session is led by experienced tutors who provide practical information regarding suitable clothing, footwear, and equipment choices. The guides also share advice on event strategy, training methods, nutrition, hydration, and navigation techniques specific to the route.

Transport is provided for all participants from Threlkeld to the starting point in Caldbeck before the run begins. Participation is limited to 15 people to ensure a focused group environment.
