Lakes Traverse® 2026 is a long-distance ultra running event held on Saturday 28th to Sunday 29th March 2026. The route covers 100 km across the Lake District National Park and follows Wainwright's Coast to Coast route. The event is organised by Ourea Events and the mapped start location is St Bees Seafront.

Route and route points

The route crosses the width of the Lake District and passes through or near Ennerdale, Borrowdale, Grasmere Common, Grisedale Tarn, Patterdale and Kidsty Pike, then runs along Haweswater to finish at Shap.

Dates, entry and eligibility

Entries open on Wednesday 9th April 2025 and close on Sunday 15th March 2026. The minimum age to enter is 18 on the event date. Tiered entry fees apply: £150 until 20th April 2025; £160 until 26th October 2025; and £170 from 27th October 2025 until entries close. Take on Orrest Sun Up in Windermere on Sun 21 Dec 2025, a bracing one mile climb to Orrest Head with stunning Lake District views. Entry on the day from The Phoenix Centre is £5 with donations supporting local community charities.

Take on the classic Wansfell fell race in Ambleside on 27 December 2025, a scenic out and back to the rocky summit. Expect steep stone steps, open fell running and a warm finish at Force Cafe, with pre entry and mandatory kit required.

Whinlatter

Run through Whinlatter Forest on scenic, well marked trails with 5 km or 10 km options and dogs are welcome. Chip timing and downloadable GPS files make for a relaxed, family friendly race day.
