Event overview

Lakes Traverse® 2026 is a 100 km ultra running event across the Lake District National Park. The event takes place from 28 March to 29 March 2026. The route starts at St Bees Seafront on the west coast and finishes at Shap. The course follows Wainwright's Coast to Coast route and passes through Ennerdale, Borrowdale, Grasmere Common, past Grisedale Tarn, through Patterdale, over Kidsty Pike and along Haweswater.

Entry and organisation

Entries open on 9 April 2025 and close on 15 March 2026. The minimum age to enter is 18. Entry fees are: £150 until 20 April 2025, £160 until 26 October 2025, and £170 from 27 October 2025 until entries close. Registration and entry are managed through SiEntries; competitors must log in or register with that system to enter. The event is organised by Ourea Events. Tackle a scenic but stiff 4.7 km fell race at Elterwater Common in the Lake District as part of the Helm Hill Winter League, featuring a 396 m climb and great views. Entry on the day, juniors welcome, bring winter kit.

Challenge yourself on a classic Lake District fell race from Ambleside, tackling 14 km with 880 m of ascent and spectacular views. Entry is on the day for £2 and competitors must be 18 or over, with a strict cut off at Loughrigg summit.

Trail running event at Grizedale Visitor Centre on 1 February 2026 offering Marathon (26.2 miles) and Half Marathon (13.1 miles) on forest tracks with some road sections and scenic views toward Windermere and Coniston.

Take on Clough Head in the Kong Winter Series, a punchy fell race in the Lake District on 7 February 2026. Expect about 7.3 km with 570 m of climb over rugged quarry and mountain terrain for a thrilling winter challenge.
