NAV4 LiAD Recce - Caldbeck to Threlkeld

This guided reconnaissance session covers the first section of the Lakes in a Day (LiAD) event route. Led by experienced tutors and guides, the session follows the course from Caldbeck to Threlkeld. The day provides an opportunity to survey the terrain alongside other participants of the upcoming main event.

The route measures 12 miles and features approximately 3600 feet of total ascent and descent. The terrain begins with two miles of lanes and trails before transitioning into remote, open, and rough fell. Participants will navigate small grassy wet tracks, rocky sections, the fording of the River Caldew, the ascent of Blencathra, and the descent of Hallsfell Ridge.

During the outing, guides provide technical information regarding:

  • Event strategy and training methods
  • Navigation and route advice
  • Choice of clothing, gear, and footwear
  • Nutrition and hydration management

Transport is provided for participants from the finish point at Threlkeld Cricket Club to the starting point at The Oddfellows Arms in Caldbeck. Capacity for this event is limited to 8 people to ensure focused guidance. Preparation includes a final information update sent to participants one week before the scheduled date.
