NAV4 LAW75

NAV4 LAW75 is a 75 mile event linking Skipton and Appleby, based primarily on Lady Anne’s Way with short sections on The Dales Way and the Pennine Journey. The format spans a two day weekend and can be completed as one continuous effort or with an overnight stop; finishing times typically range from about 15 to 30 hours.

The route starts at Skipton Castle and passes through Wharfedale, Wensleydale and into Cumbria, finishing in the centre of Appleby at the Market Cross. Much of the route follows established footpaths, bridleways and permanently waymarked sections. Basic navigation with map and compass is recommended; GPS files are available though GPS devices are not essential.

Support is provided by NAV4 with three major fully stocked indoor checkpoints at Kettlewell, Askrigg and Winton (Kirkby Stephen). These checkpoints offer hot and cold drinks, soup, food, toilets, seating and access to drop bags. Minor vehicle points are sited about every 6 to 8 miles to provide water, hot drinks and safety monitoring. Each participant carries a GPS tracker supplied via Open Tracking.

The event is self supported and does not allow external support crews. A drop bag system is used with bags transported to the three main checkpoints and an optional finish bag. A set of minimum mandatory winter kit is required including waterproof outer layers, thermal layers, an emergency overlayer, headtorch with spare batteries, map and compass, survival bag, food and a water container.
