Event Information

The MTC Grimalkin is a 35 mile ultramarathon, the fourth day of the nine-day MTC Scotia challenge across Scotland. The point-to-point route starts at the Travelodge Perth A9 and finishes at the Atholl Guest House in Pitlochry. The total ascent is 3,126 feet and the total descent is 2,806 feet.

Logistics and Route

The event has a strict minimum pace requirement of 4 mph. Competitors who fall below this pace may be withdrawn. Checkpoints are located along the course. Competitor numbers are limited to a maximum of 40 participants, including those running as part of the MTC Scotia multi-day event. It is a cup-free event, so runners must bring their own reusable cup. All finishers receive a Grimalkin medal, and male and female champions receive a bespoke trophy.

Mandatory Kit

Competitors must carry a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps provided by the organizer, a compass or GPS device, a whistle, a mobile phone, an emergency food pack, and a basic first aid kit. A winter trail race on 15 February 2026 at Balbirnie Park, Markinch, Fife featuring a 4 to 5 miles woodland route with mud and water crossings. All finishers receive a bespoke memento and prizes cover overall and age categories.

Night hill running around Glenshee ski station on compact piste snow, with 6.5 km and 11.5 km circuit options. Participants must carry winter mountain kit and meet fitness and experience requirements.
