The Last Duel Trail Race, Cardenden Woods (23 August 2026)

The event is a trail race organised by Fife Athletic Club and Kirkcaldy Wizards on 23 August 2026 at Cardenden Woods. The course is approximately 5.7 miles and starts and finishes in the playpark next to Cardenden Primary School. Registration and race headquarters are at the Corrie Centre; parking at the Corrie Centre is limited and parking at Cardenden Primary School is advised.

The route begins on a gravel path opposite the primary school, follows a farm track into Cardenden Woods and includes mixed trail and woodland with quickly changing terrain. The course goes under a dual carriageway, crosses a small timber bridge, weaves around trees and contains sections that are often muddy, rocky or rooted. The route passes the location where the last pistol duel in Scotland took place on 23 August 1826.

Trail shoes are recommended because much of the course is off road and some sections are very rough. Every runner will receive a unique medal in a goodie bag handed out on race morning; numbers will not be posted. Cash prizes are awarded to first, second and third placed male and female finishers; prize giving and refreshments take place at the Corrie Centre.

Entries are limited to 150 places. The standard entry fee is £17.00 with a £3.00 discount for Scottish Athletics members. Entries are non refundable; if the event is postponed for reasons outside the organisers' control entries will be carried forward. Runners must be 16 years or older, eligible under SAL rules and participate at their own risk. Results will be published on Fife Athletic Club and the event Facebook pages.
