Ochil 2000s

Ochil 2000s is a long fell race across the Ochil Hills, starting from Glen Sherrup carpark in Glen Devon and finishing at Stirling University. The course is roughly 33 km and includes well over 1600 m of ascent. The event is categorised AL and has a minimum age of 18.

The route visits 13 controls on named hills, including Innerdownie (611 m), Whitewisp Hill (643 m), Tarmangie Hill (645 m), Kings Seat Hill (648 m), Andrew Gannel Hill (670 m), The Law (638 m), Ben Cleuch (721 m), Ben Buck (679 m), Ben Ever (622 m), Blairdennon Hill (631 m), Colsnaur Hill (553 m), Menstrie (30 m) and Dumyat (418 m). Controls use orienteering style kites and SI dibbers at each listed point.

Only two short sections of the route are marked: the approach from the start onto the open ground below Innerdownie and the final section from the gate at Yellow Craig woods back to the university. Competitors must cross deer fences only at the three marked crossing points or face disqualification. Marshals are positioned on several hills and there is a taped route suggested for hill approaches; the taped route through the university grounds must be followed at the finish.

Mandatory kit includes a map, whistle, compass, full waterproof body cover, hat and gloves; a mobile phone is recommended. Entries are by pre entry via SIEntries from 11 July with a pre entry fee of £18 and an on the day fee of £20 subject to space. A GPX file for the route is available and there is a charge of £30 for a lost dibber. The race does not hold an FRA permit or insurance.
