Mortimer Forest Trail Race

The Mortimer Forest Trail Race is scheduled for December 2026 in Mortimer Forest on the Herefordshire/Shropshire border. It is a winter multi-terrain event offered over two distances, run on forest tracks and trails and including notable climbs and descents. The longer route is approximately ten miles and the shorter option is around four miles.

The course includes the features known as the Big Dippers and a climb to the top of High Vinnalls. From High Vinnalls there is a downhill finish with views across the Welsh Marches and sights as far as the Malvern Hills and Brecon Beacons. Runners should expect mud, varied underfoot surfaces, and sustained climbs on parts of the route.

The shorter course omits the Big Dippers and follows larger tracks for much of its length, but still includes the ascent of High Vinnalls and the same downhill finish. The course will be marshalled and signed.

Distances:

  • Approximately 10 miles on mixed terrain with the Big Dippers and summit climb.
  • Approximately 4 miles on larger tracks, omitting the Big Dippers but including High Vinnalls ascent.

The description focuses on terrain, route features, and what participants can expect from the two course options. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
