Montvale Trail Races

Event overview

The Montvale 5 & 8.4 Mile Trail Races take place on February 28, 2026 at Montvale Park in Montvale, Virginia (1092 Marketplace Drive, Montvale, VA 24122). The event is limited to 225 runners. Montvale Park features a 6.5 mile trail system that runs through old growth forest.

Course details

The 5 mile course starts after the creek crossing on the Creekside Trail and uses trails including Cliffhanger, Soggy Bottom, Access Road, Beale’s Treasure, Ridgeline and Coyote Ridge before returning over the creek to the pavilion. Mileage measured by bike odometer is approximately 5 miles; GPS devices may read about 4.5 miles.

The 8.4 mile course starts near the pavilion, follows a grassy path and gravel road through a baseball field to the asphalt walking path, then joins Yellow Drum and many of the same interior trails. There is a water stop at the gravel parking lot. Mileage measured by bike odometer is approximately 8.4 miles; GPS devices may read about 7.75 miles.

Registration, awards and logistics

RunSignup lists base entry prices of $40 for the 5 miler, $45 for the 8.4 miler, and $25 for virtual entries. Packet pickup is scheduled on the days before the race at local locations and on race day at Montvale Park. Awards go to the top 3 male and female overall and first place masters, plus medals for the top 3 in 13 male and 13 female age groups (age brackets from 14 and under up to 70 and up). Parking at the park is limited; carpooling is advised.

Rules include no dogs, visible race number on the front, staying on marked trails, courteous passing, and no amplified music on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
