Montvale 5 & 8.4 Mile Trail Races (Montvale Park, VA)

The Mountain Junkies L.L.C. event is scheduled for February 28, 2026 at Montvale Park in Bedford County. The park contains a 6.5 mile trail system through old growth forest. Entry is capped at 225 runners and registration opens in November with tiered fees for each distance. A virtual option is available for $25; virtual entries count as an RNUTS qualifier and receive a race shirt if registered by February 2, 2026, otherwise registrants receive a Mountain Junkies LLC Hoo Rag.

Course, packet pickup and race rules

The 5 mile course runs clockwise and starts after the Creekside Trail creek crossing, follows Cliffhanger, Soggy Bottom, Beale’s Treasure, Ridgeline and Coyote Ridge, then returns over/through the creek to the pavilion. The 5 mile distance is approximately 5 miles by bike odometer; GPS may show about 4.5 miles. The 8.4 mile course is also clockwise, begins near the pavilion, goes through Yellow Drum, Cliffhanger, Soggy Bottom, Beale’s Treasure, Easy Street (with a water stop at the gravel parking lot), Ridgeline and Coyote Ridge, then returns to the pavilion. The 8.4 mile distance is approximately 8.4 miles by bike odometer; GPS may show about 7.75 miles.

Packet pickup is scheduled at Gilbert Chiropractic on Thursday, Fleet Feet Sports (Roanoke) on Friday, and at Montvale Park on race day morning; there will be a race briefing on race morning. Parking at the park is limited and carpooling is recommended. Dogs are not permitted; race numbers must be worn on the front and visible; no course short cutting; amplified music is not allowed on course or in start/finish areas.
