Midwinter Mortimer Trail - event overview

The Midwinter Mortimer Trail takes place on 27 December 2025 across the Marches landscape between Ludlow and Kington in Herefordshire. The event is organised by Andali Events and is based at Kington (Burton Hotel, 1 Mill Street, Kington, HR53DP). Entries open 1 July 2025 and close 25 December 2025. Entry fees listed are £55.00 for the 30 mile option and £35.00 for the Croft 15 option. Both routes are mixed trail/field/road courses with forests, limestone tops and pastures. The longer route follows the Mortimer Trail from the medieval ruins at Ludlow Castle to Kington and crosses the valleys of the rivers Teme, Lugg and Arrow. Notable sections include Mary Knoll Valley, High Vinnals, Orleton Common, Croft Ambrey and Wapley hill fort, with a sequence of hills and ridges and some strenuous climbs. The Croft 15 starts at the Riverside Inn, Aymestrey, and finishes in Kington. Estimated completion ranges given by the organiser: 30 mile walk 8-12 hours, run 5-9 hours; Croft 15 walk 5-8 hours, run 2-6 hours.
