Memorial Day Trail Race

The Memorial Day Trail Race is a trail event held on Saturday, May 23 at the Belcher Tract. It is race number 3 of the Southeastern Trail Series. The event offers two course distances and includes packet pickup and late registration the day before and on race day at locations near the north entrance to the Belcher Tract.

Course and logistics

  • 6 mile - actual course length listed as 6.76 miles; 894 ft elevation gain.
  • 12 mile - listed elevation gain 1,631 ft.

The courses run on trails and sections of Belcher Rd, a roughly 6-mile gravel road that passes Belcher Lake, Demopolis Lake, and Summit Lake. Parking is at a lot off Belcher Rd, about 500 yards past North Shelby Baptist Church; there is room for about 50 cars and overflow parking at North Shelby Baptist Church. A $5 per car parking fee applies.

Timing is done with HUtag transponders that strap to the ankle; participants are asked not to leave the event wearing the HUtag. Tailwind hydration drinks are provided at aid stations. Place awards are given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall male and female; age awards include Masters 40-49, Grand Master 50-59, Ultra Grand Master 60+; the 6 mile also includes male and female awards for age 14 and under.
