Event overview

The Memorial Day Trail Race is the third race in the Southeastern Trail Series and takes place on a Saturday during Memorial Day weekend in May 2026. The event is held at the Belcher Tract entrance to Oak Mountain State Park near Pelham, AL. Two race distances are offered:

  • 6 mile
  • 12 mile

Registration opens in December 2025.

Course and logistics

Both courses follow trails in the Belcher Tract and pass Belcher Lake, Demopolis Lake, and Summit Lake. Sections of the route run along Belcher Road, a gravel road that runs roughly six miles from the top to the bottom of the mountain. The short course measures about 6.76 miles with approximately 894 ft of elevation gain. The 12 mile course has about 1,631 ft of elevation gain.

The race is timed with HUTAGS that strap to the ankle; runners are advised to keep their timing tag on for the duration of the event. A $5 parking fee applies at the north entrance parking area. The lot off Belcher Road holds about 50 cars and overflow parking is planned at North Shelby Baptist Church. Packet pickup and late registration are scheduled the day before and the morning of the race. Tailwind hydration drinks will be provided at aid stations.

Place awards are given for 1st to 3rd overall male and female. Age categories include Masters 40-49, Grand Master 50-59, and Ultra Grand Master 60+. The 6 mile also has male and female awards for 14 and under. A preview run is planned by Resolute Running; the date is to be announced.
