Memorial Day Trail Race at Belcher Tract

The Memorial Day Trail Race takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Belcher Tract. It is the third race of the Southeastern Trail Series and offers two trail distances that run past Belcher Lake, Demopolis Lake, and Summit Lake.

Course details note significant elevation gain and ridge running. The shorter course measures about 6.76 miles with roughly 894 feet of elevation gain. The longer course covers about 12 miles with approximately 1,631 feet of elevation gain. Sections follow Belcher Road, a gravel road that runs from the top to the bottom of the area and passes all three lakes. There are ridge top views above Demopolis Lake.

Weekend logistics include packet pickup and late registration on Friday, May 22 from 4:30 to 5:30 PM at a location to be determined, and on Saturday, May 23 from 6:45 to 7:45 AM at the pavilion at the north entrance to the Belcher Tract. Parking is at the lot off Belcher Road 500 yards past North Shelby Baptist Church with a five dollar per car fee. Additional parking is available for about 50 cars with overflow at North Shelby Baptist Church.

The race is timed with hutags that strap to the ankle; participants are asked not to leave the event wearing the hutag. Tailwind hydration drinks are provided at aid stations. A course preview run is planned with date to be announced and will start at the iron gate at the north parking lot. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
