Machen Mountain Race

Machen Mountain Race is a fell race listed as AS covering 7 km with approximately 365 m of ascent (about 4.3 miles / 1200 ft). Registration takes place at Machen Welfare Ground, Tyn-Y-Waun Road, Machen CF83 8LA, with parking in the recreation ground. The start and finish are on Church Street near the Machen Stores corner.

Entry is on the day only with a fee of £7. The event has an age limit of over 18.

The course is on steep, loose, uneven and unpredictable terrain. Organisers have cleared excessive vegetation where possible, but participants should be prepared for off-road, trail conditions and may wish to practise on similar ground beforehand. Suitable footwear for slippery underfoot conditions is advised, preferably trail or fell shoes.

The race director will assess conditions on the day and may require entrants to carry at least a windproof running jacket; in exceptionally severe weather windproof leggings may also be required. A route map and historical results are maintained for the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
