Pen Y Fan Challenge
The Pen Y Fan Challenge is a trail running event held in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales. The race offers participants two distinct distances that reach the summit of Pen Y Fan, the highest peak in the region. The event is scheduled for July 2026 and requires participants to be at least 16 years of age.
Participants can choose between two distance options:
- 5 miles
- 13 miles
Both routes are signposted and supported by marshals. The registration fee includes chip timing, a medal, and a free buff. A portion of the entry fee is allocated as a National Trust contribution. Water and sweets are provided at the finish line for the 5 mile course and at a designated checkpoint during the 13 mile course.
Specific safety equipment is mandatory for all runners. Those participating in the 5 mile race must carry a mobile phone, at least 500ml of hydration, a foil blanket or bivi bag, snacks, a basic first aid kit, a whistle, a windproof jacket, and a reusable cup. Runners on the 13 mile course are required to carry a mobile phone, a minimum of 2 liters of hydration, a foil blanket or bivi bag, snacks, a basic first aid kit, a whistle, a waterproof jacket and trousers, a hat or buff, gloves, and a reusable cup.
