Beast of Llangattock

The Beast of Llangattock is a trail running event held in the Brecon Beacons, starting and finishing at Park Farm in Llangattock, Crickhowell. The course utilizes diverse terrain including narrow canal paths, open moorland, and mountain trails.

Participants navigate a route that climbs the Llangattock Escarpment and passes through ancient walkways. The course reaches the Lonely Shepherd stone and traverses the Craig y Cilau above a large cave system. Runners also cross valleys with rivers and wildlife, pass through ancient woods, and navigate a technical incline descent. The routes are fully marked, and GPX files are provided for navigation.

The event offers several distance options based on a 10 mile loop:

  • 32 miles (three loops)
  • 20 miles (two loops)
  • 10 miles (one loop)
  • 10 km (follows main route sections)

The event includes refuel zones stocked with food and water. Mandatory kit requirements are strictly enforced and include a waterproof jacket and trousers, race pack, base layer, capacity for 1 litre of fluid, emergency food, a mobile phone, and a first aid kit. Ultra runners must also carry a head torch, hat, and gloves. This is a cup-free event, so participants must bring a reusable cup.

Facilities at the venue include parking for a fee, toilets, refreshments, and a medical team. Dogs are permitted to participate in the event. All finishers receive a bespoke medal, and trophies are awarded to top placed participants in various categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
