Beast of Llangattock
The Beast of Llangattock is a trail running event held at Park Farm in Llangattock, Crickhowell. The course takes participants through a variety of terrain, including sections of the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal, ancient walkways, and fields. The route climbs to the top of the Llangattock Escarpment, offering views of the Black Mountains, Sugar Loaf, and the Brecon Beacons.
Participants navigate open moorland and mountain trails, passing landmarks such as the Lonely Shepherd stone and the Craig y Cilau above the local cave system. The technical descent includes an incline through ancient woods and streams before returning to the canal. The event includes the following distances:
- 32 miles (Ultra)
- 20 miles
- 10 miles
- 10 km
The Ultra and 20-mile distances consist of multiple laps of a 10-mile loop. The 10 km route follows marked trails along the main course.
On-site facilities include parking for a fee, toilets, a medical team, physiotherapy, and refreshment vans. Refuel zones along the course provide water, food, and snacks. All participants receive a bespoke medal, and trophies are awarded to top finishers in various categories. Mandatory kit is required for all runners, including a waterproof jacket, race vest, emergency food, and a reusable cup. Dogs are permitted to participate in the event.
