Skirrid Xmas Hill Race
The Skirrid Xmas Hill Race is a fell race of 5.7 km / 450 m ascent (3.6 miles / 1476 ft) held on 19 December 2026 with an age limit of over 16. Entry is £10 and there are no entries on the day. Registration is at the Event HQ at the Skirrid Inn, Llanvihangel Crucorny (signed off the A465 Abergavenny to Hereford Road), NP7 8DH, with roadside parking in the village. A kit dump is provided at the start and spot prizes are offered.
The route was changed in 2022. The start is in the western field beside a large barn and a solitary oak tree and includes a loop of the field before heading across farmland through several open galvanised gates. After about 1.5 km of continuous climb through fields runners reach the open fellside via a road crossing, then follow a diagonal path up the mountain flank to the ridge and on to the summit. The return drops down the north west ridge and finishes with a run through the fields. The start and finish grid reference is approximately SO 328201, about 500 m from registration. The section marked between A and A is on private land and should be respected when recceing the course. Weather in December can be cold and wet; organisers may require waterproofs.
