Skirrid Xmas Hill Race

The Skirrid Xmas Hill Race is held from a base at the Skirrid Inn in Llanvihangel Crucorny, signed off the A465, NP7 8DH. The course distance is 5.7 km with about 450 m of ascent (3.6 miles / 1476 ft). Entry is £10 and there are no entries on the day. Competitors must be over 16. A kit dump is available at the start and there are spot prizes.

Registration is at the Skirrid Inn. The start and finish are at grid reference SO 328201, approximately 500 m from registration; the kit dump is at the start. Parking is on the roadside in the village. Organisers note that December weather can be cold and wet and waterproofs may be required at their discretion.

The current route was changed in 2022. The start is in the western field by a large barn and a solitary oak tree. The course runs across fields through several open galvanised ramblers gates, then follows a 1.5 km continual climb to the open fellside, with a road crossing on the way. A path diagonally up the mountain leads onto the ridge and then to the summit. The descent follows the north west ridge and finishes with running through fields back to the finish. Part of the route marked between A and A is on private land and should be respected by those recce-ing the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
