Loon Mountain Race - SIX03 Endurance

The Loon Mountain Race is a mountain trail event in Lincoln, New Hampshire that finishes at the summit North Peak. The course covers approximately 6.03 miles and is listed with about 3066 ft of elevation gain. Surfaces include singletrack trail, cat track, and grassy ski slopes.

The route begins on service and cat tracks, moves to technical singletrack, and then follows ski slopes for much of the ascent. The course has an average grade near 10 percent with some sections reported up to 40 percent. A notable segment called Upper Walking Boss is a sustained, steep climb on a black diamond ski run.

Organizers provide two fluid aid stations along the course and additional fluids at the finish area and at Governor Adams Lodge. The event requires participants to sign the Loon Mountain waiver. There is a cutoff at the top of the Bear Claw Extension, 5.1 miles into the route; runners not past that point will be directed to use the gondola back down.

The race is part of regional mountain running circuits and has hosted USA Mountain Running Championships. A special Upper Walking Boss prize purse of $1,500 is awarded to the three fastest men and women on that segment, with timing mats placed at the bottom of that section and at the finish. The stated registration fee is $70 and no day of registration is offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
