Jigger Johnson Ultras
The Jigger Johnson Ultras take place August 14–16, 2026 in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, inside the White Mountain National Forest. The event offers multiple mountain trail distances with significant elevation gain.
- 100 Mile out-and-back to South Moat trailhead, about 108 miles
- 50 Mile course, about 58 miles
- 20 Mile course, about 20.1 miles
Key course details: the 100 mile route is an out-and-back from Waterville Valley to South Moat and back, listed with roughly 29,000 feet of total elevation gain. The 50 mile event lists about 16,000 feet of climbing and includes multiple high summits. The 20 mile course rises about 5,900 feet and includes Mount Osceola and Mount Tecumseh.
Mandatory equipment is required and will be checked at bib pickup. Required items include at minimum 2 liters of fluids, a water filter, at least 1,000 calories, an emergency blanket, a GPX file uploaded to a device, extra battery power, a cell phone or communications device, headlamp plus spare batteries, a rain or light jacket, warm hat and gloves, compass or GPS, a neon reflective vest for road sections, and a small first aid kit. The event is cupless so runners must use their own reusable hydration system.
Qualifications and support: the 100 mile entry requires completion of a 50 mile mountain effort within the past year; the 50 mile requires a 50 km mountain effort within the past year; the 20 mile has no formal qualifications. Crew access at remote aid stations is restricted; pacers are allowed under specific aid station rules and must carry required gear.
