Courses traverse rugged, mountainous terrain and include long climbs, ridgelines, and exposed sections. The 50-mile course includes multiple summit sections and about 16,000 feet of elevation gain. Maximum course elevation is listed near 4,340 feet.
Mandatory gear is required for all distances and is checked before the race; required items include a minimum of 2 liters of fluids, a water filter, a GPX file on a device, a headlamp with spare power, an emergency blanket, a neon reflective vest for road crossings, and basic first-aid supplies. Failure to carry required gear results in disqualification.

Drop bags are permitted at aid stations; weather-sealed bags are recommended. Camping is available at Osceola Vista Campground; parking is at Waterville Valley town square.
