Kunanyi Mountain Run
The Kunanyi Mountain Run is a three-day trail festival held in Nipaluna / Hobart, Tasmania. The event focuses on the diverse landscapes and cultural history of Kunanyi / Mt Wellington. This fifth edition of the festival features a variety of running and walking events over technical terrain including alpine ridgelines and rock scrambling.
The festival offers several distances and categories:
- Ultra Solo: 66 km with 3,780 m elevation gain.
- Ultra Relay: 66 km divided into six legs (7 km - 12 km).
- Alpine Marathon: 46 km with 2,360 m elevation gain.
- Vertical Downhill: 9 km descent with 1,150 m drop.
- Mountain Run/Walk: 25 km loop with 1,560 m elevation.
- Foothills: 5 km, 9 km, or 14 km options.
- Kids Runs: For ages 5 to under 15.
The 46 km Alpine Marathon and 66 km Ultra Solo require participants to submit qualifying trail running evidence from the past three years. The 14 km Foothills race serves as the 2026 Australian Athletics Mountain Running Championships for the Open category, while the 9 km Foothills hosts the Under 20 category.
Participants receive a finishers medal, event merchandise, and access to aid stations stocked with nutrition and hydration. The course is fully marked, and professional medical support is stationed throughout the mountain. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
