Run the Dark: Knockers Solstice

The Knockers Solstice is a midwinter night trail run on Knocklofty near Hobart. The event uses headtorch navigation through native bushland and offers views of Kunanyi, timtumili minanya / the Derwent River and the night lights of Hobart. Participants may encounter wildlife such as wallabies, bandicoots and owls.

Courses combine wide, smooth firetrail and well-built single track with some short technical sections. The Enduro course uses a new shared-use trail across Noah’s Saddle and includes much of the Knocksofty and Yellow Hippo Track. The Knockers Solstice routes have been adjusted from the regular Knockers layout to avoid large hills at the start and complexity in the loop.

Distances and elevation:

  • Enduro: 11 km, 360 m elevation
  • Sport: 6 km, 225 m elevation
  • Explorer: 4 km, 130 m elevation

Event facilities include an event hub at the Lookout near Forest Road carpark, bib pick-up, a run briefing with a Welcome to Country, pizza and drinks after the activity, and presentations with spot prizes. Route maps and elevation profiles are provided via Strava. A head torch is required and a minimum of 300 lumens is recommended. Find Your Feet can assist with torch hire or purchase.
