Knobstone 50 : Trailblazer Running
The Knobstone 50 is a point to point 50 miles trail race that follows the Knobstone Trail from Deam Lake State Recreation Area to Delaney Creek Park. The course accumulates roughly 10,000 ft of elevation gain and traverses rocky ridges, dense hardwood forests, narrow singletrack and multiple creek crossings.
Terrain includes steep ascents, technical descents and relentless rolling hills with exposed ridgelines and shaded valleys. The route will be marked with black and yellow checkered tape with reflective ends and laminated signs at junctions. Runners must check in and out at every aid station; aid stations cannot be skipped, including New Chapel, Elk Creek and Spurgeon. Intermediate cutoffs exist at aid stations located near miles 32.8, 38.2 and 44.4 with an overall race time cutoff of 19 hours.
Support features include well stocked aid stations, live GPS tracking, a free shuttle to the start area, professional photography, pre and post race meals and a commemorative race hat. Runners may use up to five on-course drop bags and one finish area bag; drop bags must be small, clearly labeled, and are the runner's responsibility. The event is cupless so participants must carry their own refillable containers. Crew and pacer access is limited to specific aid stations and pacers must be registered and wear a pacer bib while on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
