Knobstone 50
The Knobstone 50 is a rugged point to point trail race covering 50 miles along the Knobstone Trail, Indiana’s longest footpath. The course runs northward from Deam Lake State Recreation Area to Delaney Creek Park and accumulates roughly 10,000 feet of elevation gain. Terrain includes steep ascents, technical descents, rocky ridges, narrow winding single track, dense hardwood forest, exposed ridgelines with sweeping views, shaded valleys, and multiple creek crossings.
Aid stations are mandatory check in/out locations and cannot be skipped; examples include New Chapel, Leota, Elk Creek, Oxley, and Spurgeon. Drop bags may be provided at aid stations and the finish; runners may use up to five on-course drop bags plus one finish bag. Crew access is allowed at Leota, Elk Creek, Oxley, and Spurgeon with parking in designated lots or along access roads. Pacers are permitted only at Elk Creek, Oxley, and Spurgeon and must register, sign a waiver, enter and exit at designated aid stations, and wear a pacer bib.
The event is cupless; no disposable cups will be available and runners must carry their own containers. The course will be marked with black and yellow checkered tape with reflective ends and laminated signs at junctions. Proactive cutoffs are enforced by elapsed time, for example Elk Creek at about 12 hours 25 minutes (32.8 miles), Oxley at about 14 hours 30 minutes (38.2 miles), Spurgeon at about 16 hours 45 minutes (44.4 miles), and an overall cutoff of 19 hours at the finish. Live GPS tracking, well stocked aid stations, pre and post race meals, professional photography, and a commemorative performance hat are provided.
