Event overview
The Knobstone 50 is a point-to-point ultramarathon held in southern Indiana. The race covers 50 miles along the Knobstone Trail, starting at Deam Lake State Recreation Area in Borden, IN and finishing at Delaney Creek Park in Scottsburg, IN. The course accumulates roughly 10,000 ft of elevation gain and includes steep, hilly terrain and forested landscape.
Course, logistics and services
The course runs northward along Indiana's longest footpath, the Knobstone Trail, with notable aid station cut-off locations at Elk Creek (32.8 mi), Oxley (38.2 mi), and Spurgeon (44.1 mi), and a final cut-off at the 50.0 mi mark. A shuttle service between Delaney Creek Park and Deam Lake is provided. The organizer partnered with a vendor to supply a performance hat made from recycled materials to all participants.
Divisions, awards and policies
Entrants may register as Male, Female, or Non-Binary; the organizer accepts each entrant's declared gender and provides an option to state pronouns. Each finisher’s name is added to a ceremonial Finisher Slab. Podium awards are given to the top three male and female finishers at each distance; there are no additional awards in the non-binary category at this time. The event offers deferment for participants who become pregnant or who have a recent newborn or adopted child, with deferment available for up to two years.
