Deam Lake Loop Trail Run
The Deam Lake Loop Trail Run takes place at Deam Lake State Recreation Area in Borden, Indiana on October 3, 2026. The event offers both running and walk/hike options on the Deam Lake Loop Trail with 5K and 10K distances.
- 10K run and 10K walk or hike
- 5K run and 5K walk or hike
The course follows the Deam Lake Loop counter-clockwise from the Forest Education Center and Park Office. The 10K follows the full loop and includes several gradual to steep climbs, small creek crossings, and one road crossing at approximately mile 0.9. The 5K follows the southern border of the property until the Knobstone Trail intersection near mile 1.8, crosses atop the dam, and finishes via portions of the trailhead parking lot and Deam Lake Road; the last roughly 0.5 miles are on roads and parking areas. The 10K is rated as moderately challenging. One aid station is planned for the 10K at about mile 3.4 with water and a sports drink, and an aid station will also be available at the finish.
Packet pickup is available the day before and on race day at the Forest Education Center. Parking is primarily at the Forest Education Center with overflow at the gravel lot by the boat ramp about 500 ft north; staff will direct traffic as needed.
The event is cupless with HydraPak providing a reusable SpeedCup at packet pickup. Shirt giveaways are optional for a lower registration fee. Finisher medals are custom laser-engraved wooden pieces. Safety measures include course markings, staff and volunteers on course, and traffic control at road crossings. The trail is multi-use and participants may encounter horseback riders and cyclists; runners should stop or slow and communicate with riders when passing.
