Course, logistics and support
Courses follow the historic Western States trail, cross No Hands Bridge, include single-track trails along the American River, and feature climbs identified as K2 and the Dam Hill. Most terrain is moderately technical dirt trails and fire roads. Hiking poles are permitted. Courses are marked with colored surveyor ribbon and laminated signs; blue ribbons indicate a wrong-way trail.
Aid stations provide gels, chews, trail mix, pretzels, PB&J, soda, water, Skratch Labs hydration mix, salt tablets, and seasonal fruit. This is a cupless event; runners must carry their own cup or bottle. Drop bag service is not available. Early bib pickup is offered the day before at Fleet Feet in Roseville and check-in is available race morning at Overlook Park. Parking is free within the park and on adjacent streets. Awards include custom trophies for the top three overall (male and female) at each distance, custom finisher medals, and age-group medals. Volunteers receive a shirt, food, and credit toward future events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
