About the race
Knickerbocker Canyon is a trail running event held March 27, 2027 at American River Overlook Park in Auburn, California. The event offers multiple distances and uses sections of the historic Western States trail.
Distances offered:
- 35K : 20.8 miles, 4,800 ft elevation gain
- Half Marathon : 13.3 miles, 3,000 ft elevation gain
- 10K : 6.1 miles, 1,150 ft elevation gain
- 5K : 3.5 miles, 650 ft elevation gain
Courses run along single track and fire roads, pass No Hands Bridge, include the K2 climb and the long Dam Hill switchbacks, and vary in technical difficulty. Hiking or trekking poles are permitted. Courses are marked with colored surveyor ribbon about every 200 meters; turns have additional ribbons, laminated signs, and flour arrows. Blue ribbons indicate wrong way and should not be passed.
Aid stations provide a variety of foods and beverages such as energy gels and chews, stroop waffles, trail mix, salty snacks, PB&J, boiled potatoes with salt, Coke, ginger ale, water, and Skratch Labs hydration. Skratch Labs is mixed to roughly 80–100 calories per 20 fluid ounces. Runners are asked to carry their own bottle or reusable cup because the event is cupless; reusable cups are available for purchase at the event for $5. Drop bag services are not available.
Other logistics: parking is free within the park and on adjacent streets; total event capacity is 400 runners across all distances. All races are chip timed with disposable chips attached to the back of each bib. Dogs are allowed on leash in the park; runners with dogs must start at the back of the field.
