Event Overview

The Knickerbocker Canyon Trail Run offers four distances on March 28, 2026 at American River Overlook Park in Auburn, California: a 5K (3.5 miles), 10K (6.1 miles), Half Marathon (13.3 miles), and 35K (20.8 miles).

Course Description

The course uses the historic Western States trail. All distances include single-track trails along the American River. The half marathon and 35K routes cross No Hands Bridge and ascend the K2 training hill. The 35K route also includes a climb known as the "Dam Hill." The course consists of moderately technical dirt trails and fire roads. Hiking or trekking poles are permitted.

Event Logistics

The event has a capacity of 400 runners across all distances. Professional chip timing is used. There is a 6.5-hour time limit for the half marathon and 35K. Parking is free at the park and on adjacent streets. Dogs are allowed on leash in the park and on the trails; runners with dogs must start at the back.

Aid Stations and Supplies

Aid stations provide Gu Energy products, trail mix, pretzels, sandwiches, Coke, water, Skratch Labs Hydration Mix, salt tablets, and fresh fruit. This is a cupless event; runners must carry their own bottle or reusable cup. Drop bag services are not available.

Awards and Shirts

The top three overall male and female finishers for each distance receive a custom trophy. All finishers get a custom medal. Age group medals are awarded three deep for both men and women.
