The Knickerbocker Canyon Trail Run takes place at American River Overlook Park in Auburn/Cool, California on March 28, 2026. The event offers multiple distances:
- 35K : 20.8 miles, 4,800' elevation gain
- Half Marathon : 13.3 miles, 3,000' elevation gain
- 10K : 6.1 miles, 1,150' elevation gain
- 5K : 3.5 miles, 650' elevation gain
The courses follow portions of the historic Western States trail, pass No Hands Bridge, and include steep sections identified as K2 and Dam Hill. Much of the route is on moderately technical dirt trails and fire roads. Hiking poles are permitted. Course markings include colored ribbons, laminated signs, and flour arrows at critical sections.
Logistics, support, and rules
The event has a combined capacity of 400 runners and is professionally chip timed with disposable chips attached to the back of each bib. There is a 6.5 hour time limit for the Half Marathon and 35K. Parking is free within the park and on adjacent streets. Early bib pickup is available the day before at Fleet Feet - Roseville, 1850 Douglas Blvd Ste #418, Roseville, CA 95661.
Aid stations provide a range of foods and drinks such as Gu gels and chews, PB&J sandwiches, trail mix, soda, water, and Skratch Labs hydration. This is a cupless event; runners must carry their own water bottle or reusable cup (reusable cups available for purchase). Awards include custom trophies for top three overall (male and female) and medals for all finishers; age-group medals are awarded three deep across standard age categories.
