About the race
King of the Mountain is a trail run organised by the West Australian Marathon Club at Helena Valley Primary School on Sunday 27 June 2027. The event features a single loop course of 16.1 km that starts and finishes at the school.
The loop travels east from the school, includes a creek crossing to reach the north side of the valley, and follows marked tracks and Victor Road in an anticlockwise direction. Around 7.3 km into the route runners turn left to ascend a steep 1.5 km track to a granite outcrop called The Mountain, circle the summit marker, then follow a ridgeline to the course high point before a steep, rocky descent back to Victor Road. After crossing the creek again the return leg uses fire breaks south of Helena Valley Road before rejoining the road with under 1 km to the finish.
The route is well marked and has nine marshalled locations. There is no drinking water on course so participants must carry their own hydration. A drink station and breakfast will be available at the finish, and hot soup is provided after the run. Parking near the school is limited so carpooling is encouraged. Members wear their club cloth bib and timing chip; non-members are advised about bib collection in advance. A course cutoff is enforced.
