King of the Mountain : Helena Valley
King of the Mountain is a 16.1 km loop trail run organised by the West Australian Marathon Club and held at Helena Valley Primary School on 28 June 2026. The course starts and finishes at the school and follows a marked loop that runs mainly on the north side of the valley in an anticlockwise direction, with a return detour to the south of Helena Valley Road after a creek crossing.
The route includes a creek crossing, a vehicle gate, a sloping track to Victor Road, and a main ascent of about 1.5 km that finishes at a granite outcrop known as The Mountain. Runners circle a summit marker, follow a short single track along the ridgeline to the course high point, then descend on rough and rocky terrain back to Victor Road and across the creek. The route passes over fire breaks with uneven ground before rejoining Helena Valley Road for the final approach.
The course will be well marked and there will be nine marshalled locations. Runners must be self sufficient with water as there are no supplies on course; there is a drink station and breakfast served at the finish, including hot soup. A course cutoff is in place. Parking at the venue can be limited and event organisers advise carpooling and adherence to local parking rules.
Entrance fees for the 16.1 km distance are: Member U18 $15, Member $15, Non-member U18 $25, Non-member $30. Online registrations close on 27 June 2026 unless sold out, and a late registration penalty applies from the Saturday before the event for non members only. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
