King of the Mountain
King of the Mountain is a 16.1 km loop trail run that starts and finishes at Helena Valley Primary School in WA. The route includes a creek crossing, a main ascent to a granite outcrop referred to as the summit, and a ridgeline section before a steep descent that returns runners toward the finish.
The course follows the north side of the valley in an anticlockwise direction for the main loop, with a detour to the south of Helena Valley Road on the return leg after crossing the creek. The primary ascent is about 1.5 km to the summit, which is circled before continuing on single-track and ridgeline terrain to the course high point. Some descent sections and fire breaks have rough, rocky ground; the route rejoins Helena Valley Road with less than 1 km remaining.
The route will be well marked and there are nine marshalled locations. Participants must be self-sufficient with water because there are no supplies on course; a drink station and breakfast are provided at the finish. A cup of hot soup is available after the run. Online registration closes on Saturday, 27 June 2026, and a late registration penalty applies from the Saturday before the event for non-members. Entry fees vary by membership status and age category. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
