John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon

The John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon is a night time endurance event held on 7th November 2026. Participants run a well marked off road loop of 5 km and have six hours to complete as many laps as possible. The format includes solo entries and relay teams of up to three runners.

The route is off road and designed to be run in the dark, so participants use trail kit and headtorches. Each lap passes a tented base that provides space for kit, food and support. The event atmosphere includes music, lighting and food at the base and has previously featured additional atmospheric elements such as fire.

Volunteer marshals support the event in a variety of roles. Marshal duties include course checkpoint positions, registration, water stations, start and finish area duties, and course set up and takedown. Volunteers receive a race memento and a donation towards a club or charitable group.

The event organiser publishes a cancellation and refund policy. In extreme weather the race may be cancelled or rescheduled and entries transferred to the new date. Where rescheduling is not possible a partial refund may be offered. The participant withdrawal policy sets deadlines and fees for transfers and refunds and specifies that no refunds are available within the final 14 days or for nonattendance.
