John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon

North Berwick, United Kingdom • 7 Nov 2026

Event format

The John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra is an overnight endurance event where participants have six hours to run as many laps as possible of a fixed off-road loop. The loop length is 5 km. Both solo runners and relay teams are offered; teams may include up to three runners who alternate laps. The event takes place in the dark and participants are expected to carry appropriate trail kit and a headtorch.

Course and on-course services

The route is an off-road, well-marked trail. Each lap passes a tented base where runners can leave kit and access food and support. The event atmosphere includes music and lighting at the base and additional event features on site during the night.

Entries, refunds and volunteers

Entries are managed through the event entry system. Transfer and refund rules vary by timing: transfers for a nominal admin fee are allowed before the event; partial refunds are possible depending on how close to the event the withdrawal is made. In the event of cancellation for extreme weather, entries may be transferred to a rescheduled date or refunded at a partial rate if rescheduling is not possible. The organisers are not responsible for travel or accommodation costs incurred by participants.

Volunteer marshals support course checkpoints, registration, water stations, and event setup and take-down. Volunteers receive a race memento and a donation to their club or charitable group. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
