John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon

The John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon takes place on 7th November 2026. Runners have six hours to complete as many laps as possible of a well-marked 5 km off-road loop, running during the hours of darkness. Events are offered for solo runners and for relay teams of up to three people.

The course passes a tented base on each lap where participants can access kit, food and support. Organisers advise participants to bring trail kit and headtorches. The event infrastructure is planned to include music, lighting and food; some editions have also included fire features.

Volunteer marshals support the event in roles such as course checkpoints, registration, water stations, start and finish area duties, and course setup and takedown. Volunteers receive a race memento and a donation on behalf of their club or charitable group.

The organiser’s cancellation policy states that extreme weather may lead to cancellation or rescheduling; entries may be transferred to the rescheduled date or rolled forward, and a 75% refund may be available in specified circumstances. Withdrawal rules state that transfers via the entry platform incur a £10 admin fee; refunds vary by timing before the event and no refunds are given within 14 days. The organisers do not accept responsibility for travel or accommodation costs if the event is abandoned or cancelled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
