The Jane Tomlinson Canal Race Series RACE 1 is a 5 km race in Methley, Leeds on 5 May 2026. It is the first of three 5 km races held along a flat canal towpath on the Aire and Calder Navigation. The series is organised by Rothwell Harriers AC and has been established for nearly 20 years. Money raised goes to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. Prizes are awarded for all age categories for individual races and for the series, with all prizes presented after the last race in July. The last race will include a 1.5 mile Fun Run and medals for all finishers.

Course, distances, entries and facilities

The course is measured, flat, runs on a trail towpath, and is marshaled by Rothwell Harriers. It is not suitable for wheelchairs. Race HQ is the Commercial Pub, Main Street, Methley, LS26 9JE, about a five-minute walk from the race start.

Run scenic looped trails around historic Kirkstall Abbey, following riverside paths, woodlands and towpaths with distances from 8.8 miles up to an ultra. Expect varied terrain, friendly marshals, feed stations and a bespoke finisher medal.
