Jane Tomlinson Canal Race Series
The event is a three race series of 5 km runs held along the flat canal towpath of the Aire and Calder Navigation in Methley, Leeds. The course is measured and marshaled by Rothwell Harriers running club. The series has been established for nearly 20 years and raises money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
Facilities and course details include toilets, changing and baggage storage at the race headquarters, the Commercial Pub on Main Street, a short walk from the start. There is no water provided on course, no distance markers and no showers. The course is classed as trail, flat, one lap of 5 km, with an entry limit of 500 and places noted as available. The event is not suitable for wheelchairs and a race licence has been applied for.
Prizes are awarded for all age categories for each individual race and for the series overall. Race winners receive prizes after each race. Series entrants receive a designed T shirt and mementos are given after each race. The final meeting in July includes a 1.5 mile Fun Run with a school competition, medals for all participants at that last race, plus a barbecue, raffle and cake competition. Additional awards include a £50 prize for a course record and £100 for the most runners from one club.
