The Jane Tomlinson Canal Race Series Race 1 takes place in Methley, Leeds on 5 May 2026. It is the first of a three-race series organised to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. The series has been established for nearly 20 years. The event is organised by Rothwell Harriers AC. Entry on the day is not available.

Course and facilities

The course runs on a flat canal towpath along the Aire and Calder Navigation. The route is measured, marshalled, and not suitable for wheelchairs. Race licence has been applied for. Race headquarters is the Commercial Pub, Main Street, Methley, LS26 9JE, about a five-minute walk from the start. Facilities at the HQ include toilets, changing rooms, and a baggage store. There are no water stations, no distance markers, and no showers.

Entries, limits and fees

Entry limit: 500 participants; remaining places listed as 347. Prices include race fees, card charges and administration. Fees shown are: All three races affiliated £30.00, all three races unaffiliated £36.00; single race affiliated £15.00, single race unaffiliated £17.00. The organisers request considerate parking around the village and to avoid blocking driveways.

Prizes and extras

Prizes are awarded after each race for all age categories and for the series. The course record carries a £50 prize; £100 is offered for the most runners from one club. Series entrants receive a designed T-shirt. Mementos are given after each race and medals are awarded to all participants at the final race.
