Ian Charlesworth Hartcliff Hill Race

Langsett, United Kingdom • 28 Apr 2026

Event Overview

The Ian Charlesworth Hartcliff Hill Race is a BS category fell race located in Penistone, Sheffield. The event covers a distance of 4.6 miles (7.4 km) with a total ascent of 709 feet (216 m). The course is marked and marshalled throughout, meaning participants do not require prior navigation experience or specific fell running background to take part. This event serves as a fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team.

Course Details

The terrain consists of a single lap featuring a mixture of fields and rough tracks. There are also three short sections of asphalt road where runners are advised to take extra care, as marshals at these points cannot stop vehicle traffic. The race starts and finishes on the playing fields adjacent to the Penistone Bowling Club. The current route was established to manage parking and access requirements in the local area.

Participation Requirements

The event is held under FRA rules. The minimum age for entry is 17 years old by December 31, 2026. Runners under the age of 18 who are not accompanied by a guardian must provide a completed FRA Parental Consent Form. While there is no mandatory minimum kit list, participants are expected to use their own judgement regarding the gear they carry for safety on the hills.

Facilities and Logistics

Race headquarters are situated at the Penistone Bowling Club. The event has an entry limit of 200 participants. There are no on-site facilities such as water stations, distance markers, toilets, changing rooms, showers, or baggage storage. Parking and access are managed to ensure the continuity of the event in the local community. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
