Hellhole 5 Mile Trail Race

The event is a trail race of approximately 5 mile distance with about 500 ft of elevation gain. The route uses a mixture of tarmac, gravel and woodland trails and visits local woodlands including Hellhole Wood. The course starts on the Sustrans track and is organised by Derwentside A.C.

Runner parking is at Shield Row Primary School, which has allowed use of its car park and grounds. The school address is King Edward VIII Terrace, DH9 0HQ. Race registration is located in the Ball Alley beer garden close to the start line. The race presentation takes place in the Ball Alley pub, which is open for refreshments.

Entries open on Sunday 12th July 2026 and close on Wednesday 14th October 2026 at 18:00. The minimum age for entry is 16 years old on 18 October 2026. Entry fees are listed as £16.00 for UKA members and £18.00 for non-members. Online entries submitted by the end of August are guaranteed a memento and a goodie bag.
