Hardrock 100
The Hardrock 100 is a 100 mile endurance run held on a loop course around Silverton in the San Juan Mountain Range of southern Colorado. The route uses 4WD roads, dirt trails, and cross country terrain and traverses public lands under special permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.
The course totals 66,882 feet of elevation change, with 33,441 feet of climb and 33,441 feet of descent, and has an average elevation of 11,186 feet. The route’s low point is near Ouray at 7,680 feet and its high point is Handies Peak at 14,048 feet.
Event organizers publish runner and volunteer manuals and a Camp Hardrock schedule that are updated as needed. A memorial scholarship program awarded funds to graduating high school and continuing education students this year, distributing a total of $64,000; the program is in its 27th year and has distributed $435,000 across 181 scholarships to date. The run and its board also awarded $30,000 in donations to regional groups and organizations that support mountain recreation and safety.
