High Five 100, Lake City, Colorado

The High Five 100 is a self directed mountain route that begins and ends in Lake City, Colorado. The route requires visiting 24 specified locations that are split into proof points and checkpoints. The organizer discloses proof point instructions at a pre challenge meeting the evening before the event.

Checkpoints are the only locations where runners may receive aid from their crew or access a provided drop bag. Runners choose their own route between proof points and checkpoints but must visit all points in the prescribed order. Finish recognition requires returning to Lake City within a 48 hour cutoff.

Organizers estimate the most practical route at about 90 to 105 miles with more than 40,000 feet of elevation gain. Completion involves summiting five 14,000 foot peaks and six 13,000 foot peaks and traversing rugged terrain in the San Juan mountains. Participants are expected to follow wilderness regulations and respect the land.

The event does not charge an entry fee. There is no marked course, no aid stations, and no finisher medal. Registration closes on January 31. The listed distance for the event is: Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
