Ouray 50 Mile Endurance Run
The Ouray 50 Mile Endurance Run is a 50 mile mountain ultramarathon held in Ouray, Colorado, based at Fellin Park on Saturday, August 29, 2026 with associated events the following day. The course features an advertised elevation gain of 23,582 feet and an average elevation nearly two miles above sea level.
The route is described as highly technical and unforgiving, using a patent-pending broken-windshield race format. The back 50 is the same as the back 50 of the Ouray 100. Runners must carry a SPOT tracker supplied by organizers; locations are updated every five minutes.
Participants must complete eight hours of volunteer service prior to August 15. Acceptable service includes volunteering at a trail ultramarathon or performing physical trail work; crewing, pacing, and coaching do not qualify. An opt-out option is available by making a $100 donation to Ouray Trail Group. Entrants who have not submitted the required service form or paid the opt-out fee by August 22 will forfeit their registration and will not be permitted to participate.
This event is not a UTMB qualifier. The top male and top female 50 mile finishers have cash awards of $500 and $625 respectively, payments contingent on urine and/or blood testing. Substances tested include but are not limited to steroids, testosterone, EPO, and THC; a THC threshold of 150 ng/ml is cited for a positive result.
Podium awards are laser cut from genuine traffic cones and a western buckle is offered by Sheridan Buckle Company. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
