Ouray 50 Mile Endurance Run
The Ouray 50 Mile Endurance Run is a mountain ultramarathon held in Fellin Park, Ouray, Colorado. The race covers 50 miles and lists an elevation gain of 23,582 feet. The course is described as highly technical and unforgiving, with average elevation nearly two miles above sea level and long sections of steep climbing.
Participants must complete eight hours of volunteer service prior to August 15. There is an opt out option that requires a $100 donation to the local trail group. Entrants who have not submitted a service form or paid the opt out fee by August 22 will forfeit their registration fee and will not be permitted to participate.
Top finishers in the 50 mile race receive cash awards, with amounts stated for top male and top female finishers. Payment of these awards is subject to urine and/or blood testing for banned substances that include steroids, testosterone, EPO, and THC. The THC threshold cited for a positive result is 150 ng per milliliter.
Racers are required to carry a SPOT tracker provided by the organizers; location updates will be sent every five minutes. The event notes that it is no longer a UTMB qualifier. Awards include a genuine western buckle and podium items laser cut from traffic cones. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
