Ouray 50 Mile Endurance Run

The Ouray 50 mile endurance run takes place in Ouray, Colorado, starting and finishing at Fellin Park. The course covers the back 50 of the Ouray 100 and includes highly technical mountain trails at high elevation. Total elevation gain for the course is 23,582 feet and the average elevation is described as nearly two miles above sea level. The route uses rugged terrain and technical singletrack rather than long flat sections.

The event includes live tracking with SPOT units provided to racers and position updates every five minutes. Cash awards are offered to the top male and female 50 mile finishers and payment of those awards is contingent on the results of urine and/or blood drug testing; banned substances listed include steroids, testosterone, EPO, and THC, with a THC threshold of 150 ng/ml noted. Entrants must complete eight hours of volunteer service prior to August 15 or pay a $100 donation to opt out; crewing, pacing, and coaching do not qualify as service. Failure to submit the service form or pay the opt-out fee by August 22 results in forfeiture of registration. Podium awards are laser cut from traffic cones and a western buckle is noted among the event items. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
